A Letter From Our President: Help Us Go To The March For Life!

Hello! My name is Maggie Otlewski and I am the president of Arizona State University’s pro-life club, ASU Students For Life. I am writing because our group is in need of your help and support. As you may guess, it is not easy to be a pro-life student on a campus as large and diverse as ASU. However, such a challenge is no obstacle for our dynamic and constantly growing group! Just this semester we have seen our club membership more than double as we participated in events such as National Pro-Life Chalk Day, hosted multiple pro-life dialogue trainings, volunteered with our local pregnancy resource center and participated in the 40 Days for Life campaign at the Tempe Planned Parenthood. Because college-aged women are targeted by the abortion industry, we know our presence on campus is vital. We are so excited to be leading the movement to change hearts and minds about the tragedy of abortion on our campus and in our nation.

In order to keep our momentum rolling this year, we will be attending the annual West Coast Walk for Life, one of the largest pro-life events in the world! The Walk is in San Francisco, California on January 24th, 2015 in commemoration of the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton court decisions that legalized abortion in our great country 43 years ago. In addition to traveling for the Walk, we will also attend Students for Life of America’s National West Coast Conference, which will provide our club members with a full day of world-class training, strategizing and networking with hundreds of pro-life college students from across the country. We couldn’t be more excited about this great opportunity that will not only allow us to show America’s leaders that we truly are the pro-life generation but will also equip us to be among the sharpest advocates for the most critical movement of our time.

We are asking for your support to help us reach our fundraising goal of $8,000 which will allow us to take 25 students, fully-funded, on this life-changing trip. Your gift to ASU Students for Life not only simply funds our students’ travel, lodging and conference registration costs, but has the potential to encourage our club members to be lifelong leaders for pre-born children and their mothers. Today we gratefully ask for your generous gift of $280, which will cover all of the costs for one of our members to attend, or alternatively a gift of $150, which will cover travel for one student. Additionally, gifts of $50 will support one student’s lodging costs, or $25 will take care of one student’s conference registration. You can make your gift easily by going online to http://igg.me/at/ASUSFL, and following the instructions found there or by writing a check made to ASU Students for Life, and mailing it to the address included. Please share our project with your network of supporters in the pro-life movement! We could not do the work we do on our campus without the help of people like you supporting the generation that will abolish abortion. Thank you in advance for your generous gift!

For Life,

Maggie Otlewski

ASU STUDENTS FOR LIFE TO ADDRESS ABORTION IN CASES OF RAPE

Students For Life of America’s We Care Tour will be visiting Arizona State University to talk with students about abortion in cases of rape.
Tempe, AZ: Students for Life of America, the nation’s largest pro-life youth organization with more than 800 groups across the country, is coming to Arizona State University to present the We Care Tour, an event specifically geared towards having a compassionate discussion about abortion in cases of rape.

“Sexual assault is unfortunately prevalent on college campuses and pregnancies do result from these senseless acts of violence. However small the percentage of abortions that are committed because of rape, they do happen and lives are taken and shattered because of it,” said Kristan Hawkins, the president of Students for Life of America. “The We Care Tour aims to equip pro-lifers about how to compassionately talk about abortion in cases of rape and give students who have been victims of sexual assault the resources they need to find help and healing.”

The tour will feature a display about how to talk about rape and abortion in a persuasive and compassionate way. Students will distribute supplemental materials as well.

The We Care Tour will take place at the Tempe campus of Arizona State University on Tuesday, November 4 at the Hayden Lawn from 11AM to 2PM.

“The word ‘rape’ is sometimes referred to as a four-letter word when it comes to talking about abortion but it needs to be discussed and we are hoping to present our pro-life message on the rape question concisely, compassionately and accurately to all students, pro-life and those who passionately disagree with us,” added Hawkins.

For more information about the We Care tour, please see www.wecaretour.com. To speak with Kristan Hawkins or another student at Arizona State University please contact Kristina Hernandez at 908-902-8473.

Guide from Students for Life of America: "5 Logical Fallacies Pro-Aborts Use and How to Respond"

10/19/2014

As passionate pro-life activists gearing up for a series of trainings and the "We Care" event, ASU Students for Life is constantly discussing and debating the issue of abortion in our efforts to better educate our peers and to change their hearts and minds on this topic. Whether you are volunteering at an event sponsored by ASU Students for Life or are researching abortion issues for a class assignment, it is vital that you are prepared to engage your peers in these conversations in an effective manner. While you may be prepared with an arsenal of knowledge (such as the information that we present in the Issues and the Resources sections of our website), you should also be prepared with strategies for responding to the most common pro-abortion approaches to this debate.

This guide, which was originally published by Students for Life of America, will provide the training needed to highlight the 5 most common fallacies, which lie behind the most common ways that are most commonly argued for abortion. Learn the strategies to respond to these fallacies, and you will be able to effectively argue the case for LIFE!

On top of playing an active role in the ongoing 40 Days for Life campaign here in Tempe, we are rolling out a series of additional dialogue training events (and a FREE pizza party for all of our members since we believe in celebrating life no matter what the circumstance) in preparation for bringing Students for Life of America's new "We Care" Project to ASU and hosting the prominent pro-life activist Ryan Bomberger from the Radiance Foundation on November 4.  Additionally, we are joining Arizona Right to Life to co-host a seminar called "The Abortion Battle: Tactics for Defending Human Life With Understanding, Love, and Truth" at the Newman Center on October 29. You are truly helping ASU Students for Life make a HUGE impact for life on our campus, and we appreciate all of you!

Additionally, ASU Students for Life is seeking to be present at three amazing pro-life events on Saturday, October 25.  One team will be working with Changemaker Central on the St. Vincent de Paul cleanup and volunteering project. Another team will represent ASU Students for Life at the 2014 SFLA Arizona Regional Leadership Conference, which will be held at Grand Canyon University.  We are also hoping to find additional students to volunteer at the CPC Walk for Life fundraiser event, which will be on the Gammage Lawn.

ASU Students For Life is excited to announce that we will be co-hosting "The Abortion Battle: Tactics for Defending Human Life With Understanding, Love, and Truth" in partnership with our friends at Arizona Right to Life.  This FREE event will be held on Wednesday, October 29 at 6:30pm at the All Saints Catholic Newman Center next to campus on the northwest corner of College Ave and University Drive. Parking is available in the back.

This event will provide an opportunity to network with other members and the leadership of ASU Students for Life, Arizona Right to Life activists, pregnancy care leaders, and other members of the pro-life community. Most importantly, it will feature training on how to become a winsome ambassador for the culture of life!

The presentation will feature multiple video components for practical application when encountering all types of questions and situations. Think of it as a time for not only training, but also for fellowship and encouragement. Our good friend, Ben McDonald, will be lead presenter. He has been trained by Justice For All and brings to this talk keen observation and analysis.  The event page for this event is available at www.facebook.com/events/551981784932571.  We would love to see you come out and join us!

Also, since we are co-hosting this training event, we would like to tailor it to the needs and the questions that you may have regarding how to become a better pro-life advocate.  Is there a topic related to the abortion dialogue that you would like clarification on?  If so, which one?  Would you like us to cover information on effective engagement strategies?  Are you worried about being a pro-life weirdo?

Please let us know what you would like to see covered during this event.  ASU Students for Life and Arizona Right to Life are working to tailor this event to your needs, so please let us know what questions you would like us to answer!
